Sensory Herb Garden

Our sensory herb garden has been thoughtfully designed to offer a peaceful and stimulating space where residents can relax, socialise, and enjoy the sights, sounds and scents of the outdoors. Our residents love spending time outdoors, feeling the sun on theirfacese, the scent of herbs in the air, and the simple pleasure of being surrounded by nature

Designed for Wellbeing and Accessibility

The garden features raised beds filled with fragrant herbs and seasonal plants, accessible pathways for easy movement, and plenty of shaded seating areas where residents can rest, chat or enjoy a quiet moment with a cup of tea. From the gentle rustle of leaves to the smell of lavender or mint, the garden offers a safe, engaging environment for everyone – including those living with dementia or sensory impairments.

We encourage residents to take part in light gardening if they wish, and many enjoy helping to water the plants or simply spending time outdoors with family. The space is fully enclosed, so residents can use the garden independently while remaining safe and supported by staff nearby.

A Calming Outdoor Space

Whether used as part of an activity, a place to gather with others, or simply a moment of quiet reflection, the sensory herb garden is an important part of life at Manor House. Nature has a calming effect, and time spent outside can help reduce anxiety, lift mood and support better sleep.

Families are always welcome to join their loved ones in the garden, and the space is often used for one-to-one time, reading, or celebrating special occasions in the warmer months. It’s just one of the ways we help residents feel at home, connected and supported in body and mind.
